Everything about this situation is completely illogical and Jared has never really done super well with that in a real world setting. Everything has to have a reason in real life, but he can't figure out what the reason is for this. He can't figure out the reason why the sprinklers have turned on or why that had a domino effect making the plants appear to come to life. There's no reason why a dining room opened into a greenhouse or why they have cell phones embedded in their arms. With no reasons, Jared has no solutions. His brain just doesn't work like that under pressure.
So when she says that it does, in fact, look like a metal box, Jared is grateful as fuck, because it gives him some reason. Metal box, control panel, shut off the water. That problem and solution combination makes sense to him, so it lights a fire under his ass and he pulls on Sharra's arm to draw her closer so that they can go together.
"I'll try to get you up there, then I'll have to talk you through, but since I can't see from down here, you're going to have to talk me through what you see before I can talk you through how to turn the water off with it. Okay?"
